The Foundation for General Care for Elderly Aruba was established on March 22, 1972. The aim of the organization is to provide housing, care, and nursing to create the conditions necessary for living a meaningful life period corresponding to the age of the elderly.
The residents are nursed and cared for according to an individual care plan. The medical care is provided by geriatric specialists (nursing home physicians). The organization also employs a psychologist for psycho-social care. The psychologist supports the staff in dealing with the residents and actively participates in the Multi Disciplinary Consultation and in the formation of the care plans. The psychologist also conducts neuro-psychological research to test the mental functioning of the resident. Psychological counseling is offered for residents who have difficulty accepting problems. Recreation and distraction is provided by three activity supervisors. Education and training is provided by training coordinators. In total there are 296 employees and 20 on-call workers and many volunteers.
The organization is affiliated with the HKZ Foundation. The HKZ is a quality model for determining the quality of care for nursing homes and home care.
