The gambiers archipelago is located 1,700 km south of tahiti and is the most remote area of French Polynesia. The climate is cool, with temperatures reaching 12 degrees Celcius. Pearl farming is practiced there, with some 129 exploitation. Gambier is made up of 14 high islands, the largest of which is Mangareva, with Rikitea as the capital.
